How much does a website cost in the UK?
The short answer
A basic site from a UK web designer costs £300 to £1,000, according to Startups.co.uk, and Expert Market puts an agency-built small business site at £1,200 to £5,500 plus VAT. Our prices start at £450 for a landing page, £800 for a site of up to five pages, and £1,300 for five to ten pages you edit yourself. Running it costs from £5 a month for hosting and £10 a year for the domain.

Each price assumes an agreed page count, two rounds of revisions, and words and photos from you. If we write the copy, add a second language or connect a booking system, the quote goes up to match.

Three guides near the top of the search results give three different answers, because each one counts something different. Some price the build on its own, and GoDaddy prices the whole first year.

Website builders cost less than any of these, because you do the design and the writing yourself. Startups.co.uk lists builder plans from £1.99 to £259 a month.
What decides the price
- The number of pages. Five pages and fifteen are different jobs, and most of the difference is writing.
- Who writes the words. Copy you supply costs nothing extra. Copy we write goes on the quote.
- Bookings, payments and orders. Each one needs building, then testing from the first tap to the confirmation email.
- A second language, which means a second set of pages written by a person.
- Replacing an old site. The old addresses need redirects, or people who find you through Google today land on an error page.
What does a website cost to run?
Once the site is live, you pay for hosting and a domain: hosting from £5 a month, and a domain from £10 a year. You pay both at cost, and we add no markup. Startups.co.uk puts domains at £8 to £20 or more a year, and hosting at £20 to £300 or more a year.
A care plan is optional. Ours start at £40 a month for hosting, daily backups, updates and monitoring, and you can cancel with 30 days' notice.
How much does a website redesign cost?
Our redesigns start at £900. That buys new design and copy on the pages people visit, fixes for speed and mobile layout, and redirects so old links keep working. Sometimes the pages are fine and the fault is a buried phone number or a slow first screen. Then we tell you, and quote for that fix instead.
Is VAT included?
No. Our prices are before VAT, and we add it where the law requires. Check the same thing on each quote you compare: at the UK standard rate of 20%, £1,000 becomes £1,200.
Can you pay in instalments?
Yes. Pay half to start and half at launch, 40% to start and the rest over three months, or twelve monthly payments with a 12% plan fee. On a £800 starter website, each of the twelve payments comes to £75.
How to spend less
- Launch with the pages that bring in work, and add the rest once enquiries arrive.
- Have your words and photos ready before the build starts.
- Keep the booking or payment tool you already pay for. We connect it to the new site.
- With more time than money, you can start on a website builder for a few pounds a month, and come back when the site has to earn its keep.
