The Lark Room

The Lark Room is a Leeds cocktail bar: night-time hospitality done as an editorial page. The drinks list leads, food stays small, and the Sunday aperitivo gets its own line.

The Lark Room home page: a cream serif headline on near-black, with booking and drinks actions.

Read at night, on a phone.

A bar site gets opened at 22:40 by someone deciding between two places. It has to answer three things fast: what do you pour, what does it cost, can we sit down.

Most bar sites bury the list in a PDF and light the page like an office. The room is dark. The site should read the same.

What we built.

  1. 01

    Led with the list

House cocktails first with their specs and prices, classics behind them, and the no and low trio given equal type.

  2. 02

    Set it dark on purpose

Near-black ground, cream serif, one sour-cherry accent lifted from the house Negroni. The page reads like the room feels.

  3. 03

    Made Sunday its own line

The aperitivo deal renders as one dated line, changed in a minute when the offer changes.

  4. 04

    Kept food in its place

A short grazing menu, set smaller. The kitchen supports the bar, and the type says so.

Measured in bookings.

A bar page earns its bookings late in the evening or never, so the design starts from the hour it gets read.

bookings taken on the page

Tables asked for on the site instead of by messages the bar answers mid-service.

22:40

the hour the page is set for

Dark ground, cream type, prices legible at arm's length.
